Donut Barrier

08-09-03
A couple weeks ago, a neighbor generously offered to donate a specimen palm tree (up to 5k in value) to the traffic island project. I'm waiting to hear back from Joe Wang about doing this. He told me he needs to check with his supervisor (Amit is his name) as "oakland doesn't generally put palm trees in traffic islands".

Joe Wang faxed me a design of a proposed traffic island. Unfortunately it's totally inappropriate for the area. I think we need to have a face to face meeting so we can get something that will work.

I spoke with Joe Wang of traffic engineering 238 3466. He told me that the city is hiring a contractor to design the median. Plans should be complete this summer and construction should begin next year.

Nancy is going to allocate pego (??) $$ for a donut barrier a the North end of the park (just South of MacArther)

Also the ambiguities of parking in this area will be examined.

Illegal parking in "no-parking any time" zones

Joe Wang updated me that these changes are going to go before the city council in April and should have no problem being passed.

Nancy and Joel are going to make global sign changes to "no-parking tow away"

In the meantime:

-Angela is going to provide a template of "tickets" for residents to post on cars
-Residents are going to give vehicle descriptions and license numbers of repeat offenders to Nancy's office to send out letters.

  Permit Parking

Turns out we needed to petition for this again. We have all the signatures needed to get this area to have residential permit parking. I'm working with annoying city employees to get this moving. We'll see what the next step is.

Nancy is going to re-instate the attempt to obtain permit parking 4.5 years ago.
