Painting is happening but not in Club Fizz

July 22nd, 2008

Since Club Fizz is so perfect, all the other levels of the house have been looking dirty and old.

So we decided to give it a fresh coat of low VOC paint thanks to fabulous Mark’s Paint Mart and add a few new colors and plants.

We also did lots of LESS IS MORE de-cluttering.

This is an old photo of the living room. Behind me you can kind of see some of the large canvases we had on the wall.

Here is the new incarnation of the loft wall with lots of integrated toxin-eating plants. eventually they will form a plant curtain and look really cool.

Why Fizz 2008 was canceled

January 5th, 2008

There aren’t very many reasons why I would cancel a Club Fizz party but sometimes things go wrong.

Here are the two reasons why:

1. Crazy Ants
Something to consider when your ultra-spoiled poodle is on a BARF diet and there are ants around.

Warning: the following is NASTY.

2. Club Fizz foundation leak.

water leak

Before leaving for work this morning I checked the foundation for leaks. There was some water in Hal’s room but not really that much. At about 11am John called me to let me know that there was a ton of water coming from the foundation in the corner of Hal’s room. So I had to get home to help keep water at bay while the source of the leak was identified and fixed. On my way home I pickup up a wet-vac from Home Creepo. I was super lucky that the foundation contractor was able to come over and help John dig a trench around my neighbor’s unit. It turns out that the water was coming from his foundation and causing it to divert underneath mine. After the contractor left, there was still water gushing in. It turned out that there was another area where the water was diverting from under his unit directly into mine. So we climbed up the muddy hill and John dug another big hole where the water was able to collect and go outside of the building instead of into Club Fizz. Basically it totally sucked and my floors got all wet and there was mud everywhere and we are both totally exhausted.

As far as we can tell all the temporary fixes we made today have been 100% successful. The sub-floor is drying out and luckily the Tarkett is not damaged. Just lots of nastyness.

Ikea Hacks

December 28th, 2007

Normally I might recommend against permanently installing anything Ikea in one’s house.

One day a neighbor who was moving out left a Tromso in the street.

ikea loft

After hacking it up and adding a couple pieces of extra hardware, it worked perfectly as a loft bed space on my previously useless top of my closet.

Sometimes Ikea furniture needs a little extra something to “get the Ikea out”. This is an Ikea Kajak with Verushka the mannequin torso permanently attached to the top. The unit spins with storage on one side and a full length mirror on the other.

Custom Window Bars

December 20th, 2007

Reed Brother’s Security fabricated and installed these window bars based on my fizzy design.

They kinda messed up my drywall in the process as they had originally fabricated them incorrectly and had to re-do them in order for their screws to be flush with the wall.

They never did get them quite flush with the wall but I was tired of them coming back and making a mess so I stopped trying to get them to fix it.

So my neighbor/carpenter Stone-age Steve came over and we decided to put lights inside it and create a sandwich out of clear acrylic and wood.
